A hackathon is an event that brings people together to create new ideas or find solutions to existing challenges. It's an intense, condensed experience that yields a product at the end. Our approach invites parents and members from the community to join the process, celebrating parents as experts and giving them a voice in media created for their families.

These days, parents' lives are filled to the brim with media. But how many parents actually get a say in what media is created and how their needs can be met through media? Our hackathon model gives parents this voice by pairing them up with other community members and app creators to bring their ideas to life!
As public media stations, such work is at the core of what we do: bringing together diverse voices to create media in service of the public. Our roles as community conveners and media producers, along with our ability to act as a megaphone for good ideas, means that we're perfectly suited to put on a hackathon to support parent engagement!
Parents join eager and excited!
Community members, like local librarians, join as well!
Parents and community members brainstorm challenges they face.
App creators work with parents and community members to brainstorm app ideas that can help address those challenges.
Ideas are fleshed out and prototypes are built to demonstrate how the apps will work.
Prototypes are presented and a panel of experts provides feedback.
A winner is selected and everyone celebrates with delicious treats!
